１対１の個別指導とは違い、グループ授業というのは（少人数とはいえ）、時として難しいことがありあす。一つのクラスには同じ目的、レベルの人が集まってはいるものの、生徒さんの目的がそれぞれ微妙に違うからです。

１クラス全員の生徒様には満足していただけない場合が時として生じてしまいます。講師として反省せねばなりません。また、皆様から、授業改善のための率直なご意見を今後とも頂ければ幸いです。

Unlike one-on-one lessons, Group lessons can sometimes be very dificult to operate though there are a small number of students in a group lesson.  That’s because there is a great variety of purposes of learning English depending on each student.  An English school tries to integrate students whose purposes and levels are the same into the same class as much as they can, though.

An English teacher worthy of the name should do evetything he/she can to satisfy every student in a class.  However, quite unfortunately, I sometimes fail to live up to all students’ expectations.  I must reflect on myself.  Also your frank opinion on my lessons to improve them will be highly appreciated.

Have you ever thought about the tone of  expressions, formality and informality?  It is sometimes very tought for non-native speakers to choose the best word/pharase according to each circumstance.

For example, when talking with friends,  to say “I think you’d better do it.” would be a usual expression.  However, if you speak in a formal meeting in front of a large audience,  it may be better to say “I hold that your best plan would be to do it.”

If you can distinguish the difference between colloquial and literary expressions perfectly, you are a real advanced learner.

口語表現と文語表現の区別は、ネイティブでない場合は結構難しいものですね。その国に長期間住んでいれば別ですが、外国語として学習している場合は特に。一般的に日本の英語学習者は、大学受験の影響から、堅い表現を優先して学習するのではないでしょうか。だから、超日常的な表現（彼はひげをそります（He shaves off his beard.)なんてのが、案外なかなか言えなかったりします。硬い表現、砕けた表現どちらも大事なので、バランスをとって学習したいものですね。

The upper house election in Japan is over.  The result is, as most of the people probably expected, the landslide victory of the Democratic Party of Japan, DPJ, though the scale of the victory might be more than our expectatons.

Now that the DPJ is to come into power, it is necessary for them to carry out their policies stipulated in their manifesto honestly in order not to disappoint the Japanese.

というわけで、皆さん投票には行かれましたでしょうか。今ここで私が選挙のことは選んで書いたこと自体には実はたいした意味はありません。要は何でもいいのです。自分が思ったことをどんどん英語で言ってみましょう、また書いてみましょう。そうすると必ずほとんどの人は、「あれ、これは英語で何て言うのかな」ということが出てくるはずです。そうしたら、調べるはずです。あるいは誰かに聞くはずです。この疑問を持つということが大事だと思うのです。そしてそれがわかったときに本当の実感として理解できるのではないでしょうか。この繰り返しが英語力をつけると思います。

何でもいいのです。日常生活のことでも、社会的なテーマでも。とにかく英語で考えるようにしてみてはいかがでしょうか。英語でのプレゼンテーションにも役立つはずです。
